I’m very excited to introduce to you a brand new dried fruit item: all-natural, nothing added dried kiwi. They come to us from a wonderful family farm located in the Central Valley of California. The husband and wife team – with whom I’ve become close friends – grows, processes, boxes and ships their products all on their own. Sigona’s has had the pleasure of carrying many of their fabulous all-California items over the past six to eight years. They’ve given us fabulous items that include dried peaches, pears, nectarines, pluots, persimmons, prunes, apples, cherries and more.
I’ve been hunting down this all-natural kiwi fruit for the past several years. We may very well be the only market with this excellent and natural item. It has natural fresh kiwi flavor and just like fresh kiwi, it’s tart and sweet, which provides a nice change of pace from most dried fruit. Like all of our all natural and nothing added dried fruits, our kiwi is dried at very low temperatures of 110-120 degrees; thus it retains nearly all of its many nutritional values, including:
- Good source of dietary fiber
- Good source of vitamin E
- Good source of potassium, copper and calcium
- Very good source of vitamin C
- Very good source of vitamin K
A few suggestions: Eat them out of hand or with a creamy gruyère cheese or, for a special treat, dip them in dark chocolate sauce.
