Espresso Balsamic & Orange Roasted Pears
Sometimes the best flavor comes from the fewest ingredients. Our infused balsamic packs a lot of flavor in a bottle, and, of course, fresh fruit that is selected by our produce buyer is going to have incredible flavor on its own.
You’ll love the versatility of this dish! The pears are great on their own, atop ice cream or steel cut oats, on a salad or even alongside pork.
Robbie Sigona’s Produce Tips: Pears
Espresso Balsamic & Orange Roasted Pears
Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 3 to 4 ripe pears Bosc or d’Anjou
- 2 Tbsp Sigona’s Navel orange olive oil
- 1 Tbsp honey such as orange blossom honey by Honey Hole Honey Co., only available at Sigona’s
- 3 Tbsp Sigona’s espresso balsamic
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Quarter the pears lengthwise. Scoop out the core (a melon baller is the perfect tool).
- In a large, oven-proof skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the pears, cut-side down, and sauté for 3 minutes a side, flipping once to the other cut side.
- Meanwhile, whisk together the balsamic, honey, zest and juice.
- Drizzle the balsamic mixture over the pears in the skillet then place the skillet in the oven.
- Roast pears for 10 minutes. Using an oven mitt, remove the pears from the oven. Use tongs to flip the pears so the other cut side is down. Return to oven to roast another 2 to 5 minutes or until pears are softened, caramelized and cooked through yet retain some of their firmness. The balsamic mixture will have reduced by about a third or half and will continue to thicken from the residual heat.
- Serve pears immediately on their own, atop ice cream or steel cut oats, on a salad or even alongside pork.
