In the Kitchen with Sigona’s: The Many Uses of Brie

Brie is one of those cheeses you can use in almost anything. Here are a few suggested variations…oh the many uses of Brie!

Brie en Croute

Slice the brie in half horizontally, layer in goodies and replace the top half. Wrap with puff pastry, brush with egg, bake and enjoy!

  • Brown sugar, apples, pecans, butter
  • Basil pesto
  • Sigona’s Sweet Red Pepper Relish

Brie Fondue

Combined with olive oil, white wine and other cheeses, you’ve got one amazing fondue!

  • Stir in crab meat and serve with sliced baguettes
  • Stir in pesto
  • Dunk in cooked chicken breast, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes , pears, apples, bread or berries

Brie Panini

If you don’t have a panini maker, don’t let that stop you! Place a small frying pan on top of your sandwich on the griddle or grill pan and set a heavy oven-safe bowl on top to weigh it down. You can make a delicious panini using these simple ingredients and Brie.

  • Pear and Arugula
  • Chicken and Dijon mustard
  • Fig and Prosciutto

Brie with a “cherry” on top

Bake, wrap, slice, cook? Are you thinking, “I don’t have time for all that!” Well, you’re in luck. Simply arrange the Brie wedge on a platter and top/decorate with some of these suggestions:

  • Top with sun-dried tomato puree and serve with wedges of red bell peppers, kalamata olives and sliced baguettes
  • Pour a jar of Sigona’s jam over the Brie and serve with crackers
  • Feel free to experiment with chutneys, jellies or marmalades and serve with crackers. Use holiday colors (jalapeno jelly, red pepper relish, blueberry chutney, etc) to wow the crowd on the big day
  • Mixed dried fruits and nuts

Brie Quesadilla

Slice Brie and lay in an even layer atop a tortilla. Sprinkle in desired ingredients, top with another tortilla and heat until cheese is melted.

  • Turkey, apricots and mushrooms
  • Mango and strawberries
  • Fruits salsa
  • Peaches and apples
  • Turkey and dried cranberries
