Robbie Sigona’s Produce Tips: Pomegranates
Choose pomegranates that are…
- Red in color
- Heavy for their size
- Nice and healthy looking with a shine to them, as opposed to dull looking
- When pomegranates ripen, they actually “square” up slightly (see the picture)
- Store at room temp if you are eating soon; store in refrigeration for a longer life.
- Some are more red than others – this has to do with the amount of sun that the fruit gets. The outer part of the tree gets more sun and therefore produces better color.
Watch our video on YouTube for a tips on an easy way to remove the arils (seeds) from a pomegranate.
