In the kitchen with Sigona’s: Better-Than-Ballpark Italian-Style Sausage & Peppers
Sausages are fantastic for easy-to-eat hearty fare. They can be baked, roasted, or grilled ahead of time and kept warm or enjoyed at room temperature. Take a riff on an Italian classic and serve the sausages on a bed of sautéed sliced onions and bell peppers. — Carmelo & Jimmy Sigona
We suggest making up a batch of these during the World Series. GO GIANTS!
Ingredients:
Sigona’s Fresh Press extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, sliced
2 large onion, diced
3-4 peppers, diced (for great color, choose 1-2 green peppers, 1 yellow, 1 red)
2 lb. Italian sausage (choose sweet or hot, or a mix)
**See suggested condiments below
Directions: You can certainly made these the day of the party or game, but you can also prepare the goods the day before to save time!
1.) Brown the sausage in olive oil.
2.) Add the onion, peppers, and garlic. Sauté till the onions & peppers are soft.
–
3.) Transfer to a glass baking dish, put it on the table or buffet and let your guests help themselves. **Serve with rolls and mustard or our Sigona’s Red Pepper Relish. Let guests get creative with their sandwiches.
If preparing ahead of time, cover the sausage mix and refrigerate. About a half-hour before your friends arrive, place the dish in a preheated 350º oven. Bake until heated through. Then you can put it on the table or buffet next to the buns, and let your guests help themselves.
Cook’s notes:This dish is just as good fresh out of the oven as it will be later on in the game.
It's melon mania time at Sigona's! The best cantaloupe of the season is now available from Turlock. They're grown by the Smith family who have grown melons for more than 100 years. They're fourth generation farmers and they know how to grow the best!
These are picked full slip, meaning they come off the vine naturally when they're perfectly ripe, flavorful and sweet. These have a very thin rind so it's almost all fruit!
